About Dr. Marshall

Dr. Marshall Anthony Jr. serves as the Head of Public Affairs, Policy, and Philanthropy at Chegg, Inc. and leads Chegg’s Center for Digital Learning. In this role, he fosters global partnerships and data-informed insights to support educators, policymakers, and students in navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of higher education in the digital era. Additionally, he advances Chegg’s philanthropic initiatives, driving efforts to make education more accessible and impactful.

In March 2024, Dr. Anthony founded Sean Elliott Anthony & Associates, LLC, where he serves as principal. Through this venture, he simplifies education insights to inspire social change.

Dr. Anthony is deeply committed to advancing the educational and socioeconomic mobility of historically marginalized communities. Notably, in 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he testified before the U.S. House of Representatives on the critical need to expand access to higher education.

With 15 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Anthony has held influential roles across university, state, and national levels. Previously, he served as Research Director at the Institute for College Access & Success (TICAS), Associate Director of Policy and Advocacy for Higher Education at the Center for American Progress (CAP), and Higher Education Research Analyst at the Education Trust. During his doctoral studies, he was a Florida Gubernatorial Fellow (Class XIV) at the Florida Department of Education and worked as an Instructor and Research Assistant at Florida State University’s inaugural Leadership Learning Research Center. Earlier in his career, he held academic and student affairs roles at Meredith College, North Carolina Central University, and North Carolina State University.

A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, Dr. Anthony holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Higher Education Public Policy from Florida State University. He also earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Higher Education Administration, a Graduate Certificate in Teaching, Training, and Educational Technology, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business Administration with minors in Accounting and Spanish from North Carolina State University.
